We can only achieve great results with this if we have volunteers making these beds everywhere that they are needed. There are homeless people in every country but there is also card and plastic in every country so please get involved: go to the instructions page and find out how to make them, start up a group and you could be someone who helps to save lives of people who need our help.
It benefits the people who sleep on them by getting them off the cold ground (card does not transmit the cold), it is more comfortable as there is a little flexibility and these two factors mean that there is less chance of becoming ill due to exposure and they can save lives in cold weather.
The technology of the design works so that all the pieces interlock to form one complete unit that is stable and will have 2 or 3 layers of card in different places to make it stronger.
The card bed was designed by Elliot Lord in summer 2015. The purpose of it is to provide a free resource to homeless people and refugees.
The beds are made from 11 pieces of strong card that can be flat-packed for easy transportation.
They use plastic bags/ sheets to wrap round them to keep them dry.
